Churches, worship centers, temples, sanctuaries, chapels, mosques and synagogues have their own unique sound and visual requirements. Issues such as sound projection and diffusion, reverberation, humming and feedback, squealing, and echo cancellation are best tackled upfront as part of a comprehensive facility design. When that is not possible, there are a number of techniques, both electronic and spatial, to mitigate many of the most current problems that may arise. Today's worship facilities act as speaking platforms as much as concert halls and theatrical venues, all of these requiring competing design criteria . In addition, the judicious use of stage and ambient lighting and video seriously affects the quality of the worship experience as well. For these and many other reasons, large churches are one of the most challenging multimedia environments to engineer and implement correctly.
